Alden Ehrenreich Front Runner to Play Han Solo

It’s being reporting that Alden Ehrenreich is the front runner to take on the role of young Han Solo in the upcoming Han Solo stand alone film. Ehrenreich was one of the young actors being considered for the role, and given his breakthrough performance in Hail Caesar!, it’s not a surprise he’s out on top.

Ehrenreich would not be the first actor to portray a younger version of a Harrison Ford character. River Phoenix  very convincingly did it first  in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (he had the advantage of working with Ford on Mosquito Coast previously) followed by Sean Patrick Flannery on The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (though Flannery was interpreting the character, not impersonating Ford), and most recently by Anthony Ingruber in Age of Adaline (how he wasn’t in the running for Han Solo is unfathomable).

The Han Solo film will be directed The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller  and will focus on Solo’s smuggler days prior to the events of A New Hope. The film is scheduled to be released on  May 25th, 2018.
