Michael Bay once said that when they were designing the robots for his original Transformers film, they originally tried to use the original Generation 1 designs from the cartoon, but they looked silly so they scrapped them. Well, director Travis Knight doesn’t seem to have that problem, as Bumblebee sees the old school Transformers designs make their live-action film debut.
The official description of the film is as follows:
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
Bumblebee, starring Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., John Ortiz, Jason Drucker, and Pamela Adlon, opens December 21, 2018.
