Leonardo DiCaprio’s Live-Action ‘Akira’ to Begin Production

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Live-Action ‘Akira’ adaptation will begin production in California utilizing the state’s Film & TV Tax Credit Program 2.0. Dicaprio is producing the film with Jennifer Davisson through their Appian Way company with Taika Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarok”) set to direct.

Akira, based on a manga of the same name, was an anime released in 1988 and has had a significant impact on popular culture worldwide, paving the way for the growth of anime and Japanese popular culture in the Western world as well as influencing numerous works in animation, comics, film, music, television and video games.
