For those of you who have been waiting to get some real confirmation on the sequel to Pacific Rim, wait no more. Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim 2 will start shooting later this year. Who doesn’t want to see another chapter in the Mech vs. Monster saga? Del Toro’s creep fest Crimson Peak will be coming out later this year and he is hard at work finalizing the Pacific Rim 2 project. After a lot of question to whether the sequel would actually happen, false start dates, scheduling problems, etc. A fall production date was confirmed and he has something big in store for us. Del Toro told Yahoo in an interview:
We have an epic battle at the end [that] we started designing a couple weeks ago.
Not much is known about the plot for the sequel but it will apparently focus a lot on the Kaiju, the lumbering giant creatures from another dimension. Of course the Jaegers, the giant Mech suits manned by a badass team of pilots will be back to defend earth against them and we can expect some epic action and mass destruction. Now all we have to do is wait until August of 2017 to see it all unfold in theaters!
