According to The Hollywood Reporter, DC/Warner Bros. will do into production on a Shazam/Captain Marvel film after it completes production on Aquaman. The film will begin shooting January or February of next year with a likely release sometime in 2019.
David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation), will direct the film, with Peter Safran in negotiations to produce. Dwayne Johnson is currently attached to star in and produce a film based on Captain Marvel rogue Black Adam, although there are no details as to whether he will be featured in the Shazam film. Interestingly, Warner Bros. will be producing the Shazam and Black Adam films through it’s sister company New Line, which means it may not be part of the Dc Cinematic Universe. Historically, Captain Marvel stories are considerably lighter than other comic books, so keeping it separate from the darker tone of the other DC films would make sense.
