Variety is reporting that Zac Efron will be starring as famed serial killer and rapist Ted Bundy in the independent drama Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile from Voltage Pictures and and Cota Films. The film will focus on the dysfunctional relationship between Bundy and his long-time girlfriend Liz. Bundy, who was executed in Florida in 1989, was known to be quite charming, so this could be a nice fit for Efron. The actor has been concentrating on comedies as of late, starring in Dirty Grandpa, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Neighbors, and the upcoming Baywatch, but has had some dramatic turns in films like The Paperboy and Me and Orson Welles, and will be co-starring with Hugh Jackman in the upcoming The Greatest Show on Earth.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile will be directed by Joe Berlinger, who was nominated in 2012 for an Academy Award for best documentary for Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory.
